The Vector Brushes Sourcebook: 300 Unique Brushes for Digital Illustration ReviewI carefully review Photoshop books for purchase as there are so so many on Amazon. However, helpful Illustrator books are so rare that I am happy when great ones comes along. This book is not just about the 300 brushes. It features the best and most comprehensive overview of the 4 types of brushes included in Adobe Illustrator. The information, presented in 4 sections, color coded and easily accessible is a feast for the eyes. There are tutorials that will add to your "brush-mastery: brush tool settings, tints and colors, brush directions. All these topics are so well explained and diagrammed that this alone is worth the price of the book.
Only one minor con. The sample artwork provided by fellow artists using these brushes, although lovely, was not very helpful. I felt she was featuring her friends'work. One artist uses several complicated brush patterns on letters...to the extent that "they are unrecognizable." What's the point in that? One example was OK, but she featured a whole page of his letters. Another image was a big ball of fuzz...I never could find the brush source for that. Some examples where those ubiquitous images so piled with every vector and photoshop technique that the point of the image is lost. Once again, how does this help the student working through the book. A few straightforward simple graphics would have sufficed.
