How to Con Your Kid ReviewBy design, two-year olds often don't want to do what you want them to do, leading to the well documented Parent-Toddler Power Struggle. Of course, I know these can often be avoided by turning the task into a game, adventure or song. But really, when I'm rushing to get out the door, I've already cleaned up 3 spills, my oldest can't find his shoes, and my two-year old refuses to allow me to brush her hair, my creative mind shuts down. I was having just such a morning and literally ran to find this book, looked up brushing your toddler's hair and one minute later my daughter was happily letting me brush her hair while I sang a song about getting the knotty witch out. The best part was I left the house that morning feeling not like a harried mother bullying her kids into doing what she needed them to do, but a clever and creative mother with two happy children. I am giving this book to all my friends who have toddlers.How to Con Your Kid Overview

However, from my first reading to him, I did! There must be something magical about this book and the way children love it. It's very comforting to them, with the easy to memorize lines and the gentle arrival in the great green room of nighttime. However, it's also full of little details for them to notice and delight in--the hidden mouse, the dollhouse with lights on, the pictures on the wall. It's the perfect book to start kids "reading" themselves---leave out the crucial word in a line and wait for them to say it---"a bowlful of...." "MUSH!", they scream with delight! And they all love the "Goodnight Nobody" page best---I think it really gets kids thinking in a philosophical way---How can you say Goodnight to Nobody? Touch the Art: Brush Mona Lisa's Hair ReviewWe love this book! Brush Mona Lisa's hair has works of art that remind me of an art history class I took in college, but with touch and feel! My daughters (3 yrs old and 18 months old) love books so we have alot of them, and this one is a winner!
This book includes:

Price Balthasar Carlos on Horseback- Diego Velazquez
The Birth of Venus- Sandro Botticelli
The Laughing Cavalier- Frans Hals
The Arnolfini Portrait- Jan van Eyck
Portraits of Federico da Montefeltro and Battista Sforza and Their Triumph- Piero della Francesca
Girl with a Peal Earring- Johannes Vermeer
The Card Sharp- Georges de la Tour
Sistine Madonna- Raphael
At the end of the book the authors have included a short paragraph about each work of art and the artist who created it.
As with all the books in this series, the art is the star of the book- the words are secondary, and that's fine in this case. The "story line" in this book isn't amazing, and while that would usually annoy me, it doesn't matter much since the touch and feel famous works of art concept is so fantastic!
