How to Con Your Kid ReviewBy design, two-year olds often don't want to do what you want them to do, leading to the well documented Parent-Toddler Power Struggle. Of course, I know these can often be avoided by turning the task into a game, adventure or song. But really, when I'm rushing to get out the door, I've already cleaned up 3 spills, my oldest can't find his shoes, and my two-year old refuses to allow me to brush her hair, my creative mind shuts down. I was having just such a morning and literally ran to find this book, looked up brushing your toddler's hair and one minute later my daughter was happily letting me brush her hair while I sang a song about getting the knotty witch out. The best part was I left the house that morning feeling not like a harried mother bullying her kids into doing what she needed them to do, but a clever and creative mother with two happy children. I am giving this book to all my friends who have toddlers.How to Con Your Kid Overview

Although I 'get' that this is not meant to be a children's book, I had kind of hoped for a more subtle text so that a child would actually get something out of it. Yes, there is good advice on how to get through life so that people like you and want to be around you, but the delivery is almost admonishing. It's not exactly a 'come on it's bedtime, let's a read a story' kind of book. Wash, Scrub, Brush (Concept Books (Albert Whitman)) ReviewA good introduction to hygiene (including some of the "why bothers"). There is a small glossary at the back of the book defining terms such as germs, bacteria, earwax... I was hoping, however, for a simpler text for my toddler. Perhaps I am underestimating my daughter, but I am guessing that the word disease is not in her vocabulary yet! So, I will add my own comments. When a "sidebar" says "There are more harmful germs and bacteria under your fingernails than on a toilet seat!" I will simply add "Germs make you sick!" or some such sentence.
