It helps you set up a colour palette for this dramatic subject. It also talks about different cloud formations and observing clouds in the field. In fact three pages of this 32 page book are dedicated to this. Since understanding your subject is of prime importance, Alan then looks at individual types of skies for you to paint. Each painting is presented as a step by step. I liked Clouds at Sunset best as I found the other paintings rather dark. Twilight in the Wilderness is a close second. This book is perhaps not for the complete beginner but the improver, who understands basic techniques and the use of paint and colour and just wants ideas about what to paint. Landscape in Pen and Wash ReviewUsing ink on paper as a prequel or sequel can be fast, fluid, very useful support technique. I just haven't found such straightforward, detailed instruction such as this book offers. Even classroom instruction nowadays shows a preference for Micro-tech pens, not ink and nubs. This is enough to get you to the art store and home; onto paper right away. Especially if working alone or at a distance to classroom instruciton. I got the book from our library and just blossomed and thrived on its content enough to order from good old Amazon.Landscape in Pen and Wash Overview

It is an excellent guide with many step by step demonstrations. Each one on a different subject all related to the seashore. For example: waves, rocks, palm trees, sea birds etc are demonstrated and simplified first in watercolor, then in acrylic.
